STEPS pursues the question of whether or not snowboarding and skiing in today’s world can be done in harmony with nature.
The Ride Greener documentary is the first climate friendly snowboard and ski movie of its kind. It dives into the world of people whose deep connection to the mountains ties them together. Worried about impending climate change, they are looking for an alternative way to pursue their passion in harmony with nature and experience the mountains in an ecologically sustainable way. Instead of flying around the world in pursuit of snow, they explore the Alps at their doorstep. They travel using public transportation and climb the highest, most impressive peaks on their own before beginning their spectacular descents and jumps. Their thought-provoking comments about the effects of climate change and the fascination and freedom of snowboarding and skiing leave the viewer questioning their own approach to winter sports and everyday life.
After his studies in visual Anthropology at University of Fribourg and Berne, he founded together with Stephan Hermann the production company coupdoeil (www.coupdoeil.ch). He produced different documentary films amongst others Amrit (www.amritfilm.net). Himself a freerider he likes to hike in the swiss alps all year round.
Stephan Hermann Historian and anthropologist Stephan Hermann was born in 1981 in the middle of the majestic Walliser Alps. A passion-driven filmmaker, he enjoys portraying down-to-earth people - sometimes from a high altitude perspective, as he most recently did for the movie STEPS.
