OCEAN EPICS

What do you do when a polar bear charges you? "We found yelling colourful language was more effective than gentle talking,” says 65-year-old writer and Arctic explorer Jon Turk. “The right tone could communicate, ‘You’re bad. We’re just as bad.’”

Explorer Jon Turk and pro kayaker Erik Boomer discovered this during their 1,485-mile circumnavigation of Ellesmere Island. They are one of two presentations on VIMFF's Ocean Epics night where you'll learn that riding the high-seas is both exhilarating and dangerous.

Our other presenter, Hayley Shephard, is a 40-year old New Zealand-born Canadian who pursued her dream to solo kayak amidst the crashing waves and treacherous seas around the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia. Her goal - to bring awareness to an endangered seabird - the albatross. She will be speaking about the making of her film Soul of the Sea followed by a screening of the film itself.

We predict these tales will shiver yer timbers, so get your tickets now!
