CENTENNIAL THEATRE
The 15th annual Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival is going to be a blast right from the get-go. With an opening night featuring keynote speaker John Harlin, three mountain films and the culmination of the VIMFF Mountain Photo Contest hosted by Climb for Change, how could it not be?
John Harlin is no stranger to adversity; he set off on one portion of the most ambitious climbing adventures ever while still recovering from two broken feet! Join us for his presentation and get inspired hearing about the trials, challenges, set-backs, triumphs and careful planning that all goes into realizing the 1,200 mile & 1,000,000+ vertical foot journey along the Swiss border.
Following John's presentation we'll be revealing which photographers extraordinaire submitted the most breathtaking, awe-inspiring photos and clinched not only crazy bragging rights but also a 2-week guided expedition in Northern Pakistan with Nazir Sabir Expeditions for the grand prize winner and great gear from Arc'teryx for the People's Choice Award winner.
Finally, we round out what is already sure to be a fantastic night with three top-notch films:
Free-ride skier Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and big mountain snowboarder Lucas Debari step out of their element and make an attempt to climb, ski and snowboard Denali.
Take a front seat ride and experience what it takes to make a first ascent on one of the world's biggest alpine faces in 2011. The film joins top British alpinists Jon Bracey and Matt Helliker as they honour their late friend Jules Cartwright by following his original vision of making a stunning and formidable new line on Mt Hunter's incredible north buttress: The Moonflower
