VIMFF Sacred Headwaters Tonight at 7:30
Explore the Tar sands to the Great Bear Rainforest through a beautifully enigmatic series of photography, film and renowned filmmakers. This evening will draw attention to what’s at stake—the social, environmental and economic implications of the proposed pipeline and tankers project.
- WHITE WATER BLACK GOLD (Canada, 2011, 54 min, directed by David Lavallee): Follow David Lavallee on his three year journey across western Canada in search of the truth about the impact of the world’s thirstiest oil industry. This is a journey of jarring contrasts, from the pristine mountain icefields that are the source of this industry’s water, to the Tar Sands tailings ponds, where thousands of migrating birds have unwittingly landed and died.
- TIPPING BARRELS (Canada, 2011, 20 min, directed by Ben Gulliver): A unique combination of surfing and environmental journalism that follows surfers Arran and Reid Jackson on a trip into the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest, where they learn more about the region and the issues confronting it.
- THE PIPEDREAMS PROJECT (Canada, 2011, 25 min, directed by Faroe Des Roches & Ryan Vandecasteyen): Searching for effective ways to get involved in the decision-making process and oppose a $5.5 billion pipeline project that would introduce crude oil tankers to the North Coast of British-Columbia, three kayakers embark on an epic 2-month kayak expedition along the length of the BC coast.
- ON THE LINE (Canada, 2011, 51 min, directed by Frank Wolf): Follow Frank Wolf and Todd McGowan on a 2,400 km adventure by foot, bike, raft and kayak as they seek to uncover the truth about a proposed 5.5 billion dollar oil pipeline. The Northern Gateway Pipeline Project is a proposal by Calgary’s Enbridge Corporation to construct a 1,170 kilometre oil pipeline from Bruderheim, Alberta to Kitimat, British Columbia.
