Searching for effective ways to get involved in the decision-making process and oppose a $5.5 billion pipeline project that would introduce crude oil tankers to the North Coast of British-Columbia, three kayakers embark on an epic 2-month kayak expedition along the length of the BC coast.

In May of 2010, Enbridge Inc. made an official application to build twined crude oil and condensate pipelines that would connect Alberta's Tar Sands to Kitimat, and for the first time bring crude oil super tankers to BC's North Coast. In the fall of 2010, Curtis, Ryan and Faroe kayaked 900 km in opposition to this controversial pipeline. Their journey leads them face to face with the complexity of the environmental assessment process, the difficulties local communities face in having their voices heard, and the growing resistance against the pipeline. Leaving the city behind for adventure and the exploration of the isolated and dangerous coast of British Columbia, they immerse themselves completely in one of the last truly wild places on Earth. The trio becomes deeply impacted by their experience, irreversibly entangled in the Pacific Northwest, and awakened to a world of power, politics and the question of democracy

Director Bios:

Faroe Des Roches

The Pipedreams Project: the movie is Faroe's first documentary film. Faroe is a kayak instructor in Vancouver; she has been instructing kayaking since 2005 and enjoys sharing her love of the land and ocean with others. Faroe completed her Bachelor's degree in anthropology at Simon Fraser University in 2010.

Raised off the sea air and rain of coastal British Columbia, and struck by people and landscapes in places far from her birthplace, Faroe is an experienced and passionate adventurer with a strong drive to create social change and preserve the environment. Through her travels and studies, Faroe has been impassioned by the challenge of imagining alternatives, pushing the boundaries of expectation and accepting new ways of seeing the world.
