As one of a handful of motivated young alpine climbers in North America, Jason has made adventure climbing his priority, attempting bold new routes on legendary peaks like Cerro Torre and the North Twin. Always in the funniest style possible, whether light, fast, or free. It's simply a new way of looking at these historic faces.
In a sport fixated on summits, it's all too common to get caught up in the final goal and miss the colour and character along the way. Jason explores not just the what, but the how and why of climbing and it's lifestyle. "Climbing has been responsible for some the richest experiences of my life: lifelong friendship, success, failure, obsession."
Jason Kruk, 24, is an alpinist based in Squamish, BC. A North Vancouver native, he grew up in the dusty local climbing gym, never dreaming he would one day become a professional climber.
Jason developed an early passion for the big mountains, inspired by classic mountaineering literature and magazines. An adolescence schooled by the friendly granite of Squamish and the timeless roadtrip venues of Yosemite and Indian Creek honed his technique. While important experience was developed in the Canadian Rockies, a mountain range he considers 'home', despite living 12 hours away.
Now, he likes to think 'alpine artist' most accurately describes his lifestyle. The past few years have been devoted to constant travel in the pursuit of adventure in the world's greater ranges, as well as exploring his vast backyard from the Rockies to the Coast Range.
Climbing does constant battle with his other passions skiing (old) and flying paragliders (new).
