John Vaillant: The Tiger - A True Story of Vengeance and Survival
VIMFF Tiger Night
Tuesday, February 14, 7:30 pm (doors 7:00 pm)
Pacific Cinematheque
'The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival' was inspired by Sasha Snow's internationally acclaimed documentary, 'Conflict Tiger'. Vaillant's talk will cover his first encounter with Snow's film, how a cold call turned into a warm friendship and a surprising collaboration, and what tigers mean in a world increasingly threatened by habitat loss and illegal wildlife trade.
John Vaillant is a freelance writer whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, National Geographic, and The Walrus, among others. His first book, The Golden Spruce, was a bestseller and won several awards, including the Governor General’s Award for Non-Fiction. His most recent book, The Tiger is also an award-winning bestseller, and was nominated for CBC's 'Canada Reads'. Of particular interest to Vaillant are stories that explore collisions between human ambition and the natural world.
Copies of Vaillant's book and Snow's film will be for sale with 100% of proceeds going to tiger protection.
