Nick Waggoner from Sweetgrass Productions (Signatures, Hand Cut) is coming up from the USA to present their latest film Solitaire along with stories from the end of the earth, making award-winning ski films with human power. Nick shares some insight into the good, the bad, and the weird of skiing around the world, capturing world-class cinematography and soulful narrative from British Columbia, to Japan, to Peru.
As Nick says “ It's the people that make filmmaking interesting, and our work is about spending a long time in one place. It's more than just backcountry skiing, it's about the mountains, and the people who love them, about the light, the shadows, and the emotion that changes with their balance. A cloudy icy slope and a sunny powder line produce two different moods, two different riders, and two different filmmakers. Our films are based in this knowledge that there is more to a mountain than fresh snow and a big line; there are stories to be told. Whether in the living room of a 92 year-old miner or playing toys with an athletes 3 year-old son, it's about connecting with people who may not share your language or culture”.

Nick Waggoner
Born and raised in New York City, Nick headed west at 18 to fulfill the frontier thesis, landing at Colorado College. After founding Sweetgrass Productions in his junior year with his ski and film loving roommates, Nick directed and produced their first film Hand Cut (2008) as his senior thesis, without much more of a blueprint than passion for filmmaking and love for winter. By 2011, Nick and Sweetgrass have built a name for themselves around award-winning cinematography and soulful storytelling on the backs of their most recent ski films Signatures (2009) & Solitaire (2011).
